Split Case Up to 1960

The original transmission in 1960 and older bugs were the split case style transmission. Split case transmissions do not have a synchronized 1st gear, You must come to a complete stop to put the transmission in first gear or you will damage the transmission. We only recommend running a split case if you are doing a stock restoration. You can install a later synchronized swing axle transmission if you order it with a early bus nosecone and modified shift lever. This will make your car much easier to drive in today’s traffic. The axle assemblies come installed and ready to install into your car.
